For children with myopia, should I choose frame lenses, contact lenses, and OK lenses?

 1. Traditional frame glasses
Frame glasses can correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. For high myopia or anisometropia, high hyperopia, or even high astigmatism, these patients can choose to wear rigid contact lenses in addition to glasses.
  2. Rigid contact lens
Rigid contact lenses are also called RGP, which can make the child's vision better than wearing frame glasses, but it is necessary to check in advance whether the patient's eyes are suitable for wearing. Although RGP has good visual effects, the cost will be higher than that of frame glasses.
For those with a large difference in the degrees of the two eyes (anisometropia), this type of child is particularly suitable for wearing rigid contact lenses. Of course, children with high myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism are also more suitable for wearing rigid contact lenses.
  3. Orthokeratology lens
Orthokeratology lens is also called OK lens, it is recommended for children over 8 years old to wear it. Generally speaking, orthokeratology can correct myopia within 600 degrees, especially myopia within 400 degrees.
Before wearing the orthokeratology lens, you must also go through a professional doctor's examination to observe the patient's tear secretion and determine whether it is suitable for wearing. Rigid contact lenses and orthokeratology lenses are glasses that are worn inside the eye and need to be in contact with the cornea. Therefore, children with repeated episodes of dry eye, trichiasis and allergic conjunctivitis are not suitable for wearing them.
During the wearing process, strictly follow the wearing method as directed by the doctor and standardize the operation to avoid abrasion of the cornea due to wearing the contact lens, which may cause infection.
Orthokeratology lenses can delay the progression of myopia, but they must be replaced according to changes in refractive power, and patients must go to the hospital for regular review.
Whether you wear frame glasses, RGP glasses or OK glasses, you must go to the hospital for regular review. Under normal circumstances, the re-examination is performed once every six months, and the longest period cannot exceed one year.
