Cause Of Suicide Is Depression |
Suicide is one of the major social and mental health problems in the current social system. Suicide has spread all over the world in the form of epidemics.
In this situation, the World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10 every year in a joint effort of the International Organization for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization to raise public awareness to prevent the trend of suicide. This year's theme for the day is 'Working Together to Prevent Suicide'.
Reasons for suicide:
A person can commit suicide for various reasons. These include personality problems, severe mental illness or mild mental, drug addiction, anxiety, depression or persuasion.
Although the suicide rate is higher among boys, it is higher among women in the world. Generally, the tendency of suicide is highest among young girls. Many commit suicide because of low education, poverty, marital strife. In addition, love-related complications, financial deprivation, chronic diseases, family conflicts are one of the main causes of suicide.
And every year around 6 lakh men and women commit suicide in the world which is more than the number killed in any war. As such, 1 woman or man commits suicide every 40 seconds.
In most cases, this suicidal tendency is seen in younger girls. Some are arrogant towards their parents, some have poor results in exams and some have unknown reasons. However, most commit suicide due to depression.
What is depression:
Depression is a terrible mental disorder that kills a person unknowingly. Depression can reduce a person's physical and mental performance. There are currently about three hundred million depressed patients in the world. One study found that 1 in 5 people suffer from some form of depression or anxiety.
In many cases the deterioration of family or social relationships is due to this depression, which may remain completely unknown. The reverse is also true. People often suffer from depression due to family or social tensions.
As I said at the beginning, the horrible aspect of depression is that the affected patients commit suicide in silence. One study found that depression was the leading cause of suicide among 15- to 24-year-olds worldwide. Depression is more common in middle and low-income countries. In many cases, depression leads to diabetes and hypertension. Depression lowers the body's resistance to disease. In many cases, depression occurs in the elderly, children, adolescents and even child-bearing mothers or expectant mothers, from which they commit suicide.
Many people in their family may not know that they are suffering from depression, treatment is far away. However, in my opinion, the number may be higher because many of us still do not think that depression is a disease. Or not aware of depression.
Famous people who suffered from depression:
Despite the fact that many famous people of the world are suffering from depression, they have become memorable and admirable in overcoming depression in treatment and counseling. Among them are Abraham Lincoln, lunar traveler Edwin Aldrin, Ernest Hemingway, Whiston Churchill, Harry Potter author JK Rowling, Grammy Award-winning singer Sheryl Crowe, and former US Vice President Al Gore's wife Tippe Gore.
The American astronaut Aldrin's grandparents were depressed and committed suicide, and Harry Potter author Rowling occasionally thought of committing suicide due to depression. However, they regularly consult with a psychiatrist.
Patients with depression need to extend a hand of empathy, talk to them about depression and take appropriate steps to treat them. Lately, many medical students are also getting suicidal thoughts from depression.
Symptoms of depression:
Let's take a look at some major symptoms of depression;
- Being depressed all the time
- Loss of enthusiasm
- Decreased or increased sleep
- Decreased or increased appetite
- Weight loss or gain
- Not getting energy in work
- Loss of focus
- Irritable mood
- Feeling we have 'Run out of gas' emotionally

- Talking about suicide, thinking.
If these symptoms persist for more than two weeks, we call him a major sufferer, and he may be at risk of suicide.
Treatment:
Under the supervision of a psychiatrist, it is possible to completely cure a depressed patient through a variety of effective antidepressant drug psychotherapy and counseling. Generally amitriptyline, citalopram, S citalopram, myrtazapine are very effective as anti-depressants.
Realizing the horrors of growing depression around the world, the slogan for World Health Day on April 7 last year (2017) was, "Depression: Let's Talk".
Finally, I say again, patients with depression commit suicide without anyone noticing. So talk to them openly, give them time and seek expert advice.
